Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate percentage of a quantity?
- Convert the percentage to a decimal or fraction, then multiply. For example, 20% of 150 = 0.20 × 150 = 30. For increase/decrease, find the percentage amount then add or subtract.
- What is reverse percentage?
- Reverse percentage finds the original amount before a percentage change. If 80% of an amount is $120, the original = $120 ÷ 0.80 = $150. Do not simply add 20% back.
- What are common PSLE percentage mistakes?
- Using the wrong base (e.g. calculating discount on the sale price instead of original price), confusing percentage increase with the final percentage, and rounding too early. Always identify what 100% represents.
