Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate percentage of a quantity?
Convert the percentage to a decimal or fraction, then multiply. For example, 20% of 150 = 0.20 × 150 = 30. For increase/decrease, find the percentage amount then add or subtract.
What is reverse percentage?
Reverse percentage finds the original amount before a percentage change. If 80% of an amount is $120, the original = $120 ÷ 0.80 = $150. Do not simply add 20% back.
What are common PSLE percentage mistakes?
Using the wrong base (e.g. calculating discount on the sale price instead of original price), confusing percentage increase with the final percentage, and rounding too early. Always identify what 100% represents.
